Trace Town Council recognized Guy Miller on Saturday for thirty-five years of service through Miller's Produce & Feed. Miller assumed daily operation of the Main Street store from his aunt Evelyn Miller in 1983 and continued the family's supply and produce business through three decades of change in local agriculture.
For many years, Miller drove an early-morning route carrying seed, repair parts, empty crates and boxed produce to farms and packing sheds east of town. Farmers also knew the store for its counter telephone, handwritten message board and Miller's willingness to lend a tool when a replacement part could not arrive until the next delivery.
During the August 2000 community search, Miller kept the store open after hours and supplied road maps, coolers and drinking water to volunteers. He ended the regular delivery route in 2012 but continues to assist vendors at the Saturday market.
A selection of Miller family business signs, route books and produce labels will be included in the Historical Society's planned local commerce display. Council member Dana Polk presented the certificate, joined by Lyle Mercer and Ruthie Sims.
